A key component of book marketing is the COVER! The cover is the first impression about a book before ever flipping it over to read a synopsis. Because of that and because I have become friends with a few cover artists, I wanted to use my blogger voice to highlight artists producing wonderful cover art for authors big and small.
As always, I am staunchly against AI. I know some folks don’t care and there are many indies that fall back on AI, arguing that it is “the future.” I disagree. I’ll say simply that as a reader that drops thousands of dollars on books each year, if I see an AI cover, I’m far more likely to skip over the book entirely.

Note on prices:
I don’t put direct quotes, but I do put little $ ratings on how expensive services are based on the prices provided on artist’s websites at the time of writing this post. Keep in mind that any prices quoted here are subject to change and may be more depending on the number of revisions or additional services added. If there is no rating listed than it is very likely a custom rate depending on the commission, and I am not aware of the average pricing for this artist.

Alex McVey has worked with legendary horror authors Stephen King, Joe R. Lansdale, William Peter Blatty, Ronald Kelly, and Briane Keene. His art is monstrous and iconic with plenty of teeth! I don’t think he offers traditional cover services, but he does offer commission services.

Creepy Carves is the go-to for covers and posters that evoke a retro movie poster feel. Creepy Carves has an intimidatingly impressive portfolio of film posters including ones for major IPs. I have no idea what his commission price is, but the results are worth every penny. This artist has done all of Duncan Ralston’s throwback covers and they are my absolute favorites of not just his books, but out of many book covers. I plan to purchase every single one in hardcover specifically for the art.

MiblArt is the cover artist for a lot of the most eye catching covers I’ve seen. They work in all genres, not just horror, and they offer package deals for covers, logos, and promotional material.
