This volume was good, I liked it, and it’s the start of the series growing on me I think. The first two volumes are rough, but I’m glad that I pushed through to continue on in the series. It’s great to see the characters warm up to each other and for the interpersonal dynamics to start being fleshed out. There was also actual studying in this volume which was good, considering it’s the backbone of the central plot.
Also, I haven’t mentioned this before, but I actually quite like Futaro as a main character. The heroes of most harem manga tend to be spineless dumb perverts that are special for no reason and are bland enough that anyone can see themselves as him. Futaro is the complete opposite of this. He is diligent, an exceptionally smart student dedicated to his little sister, and he’s not a pervert. On the other hand, he is also an uptight loner that lacks sensitivity and can be a stubborn asshole. He is a character that has normal flaws, and not simply just the flaw of not being able to say no to cute girls.
I appreciate all of the quintuplets as well; although each one falls into a common character archetype, there’s a little more to each character that makes them stand out. I haven’t decided which sister I like the most yet, or which I’d want to root for, even though the main female lead is pretty obvious. I’m just curious to see if this series will follow the usual formula or shake things up a bit. Either way, I am enjoying the wholesome romance in this series so far.
