Review
Queen Boss Slay is the second book in PC3’s Pocket Nasties series and it’s a direct sequel to 100% Match, with the gross factor and violence turned up several notches and a good amount of satire in the mix. This book is quite brutal and along with the social commentary it fits firmly in the splatterpunk genre.
The story follows Sara, Bart’s date that we met at the end of the last book, a church lady by day and man hating dominatrix by night. This duality made her a fun protagonist to follow, Sara is an unrepentant bitch and I loved that about her. There were certain narrative inclusions that make her an unconvincing female lead, though, but that was something I could overlook.
The book makes a handful of references to Sara’s encounter with Bart in 100% Match which were good for a few giggles, and Sara occasionally drops a few shocking “confessions” the same way that Bart did, just without any of the humor. Not to say this book wasn’t funny, I did cackle a few times while reading. I was however a bit disappointed that Queen Boss Slay was not nearly as entertaining as its predecessor.
