Synopsis:
After the daily grind at their jobs all Sonya and Callie want is to enjoy a quiet night out together at a new restaurant. But making it to their reservation is proving to be a challenge. A few men on the street near their destination verbally assault them. And the situation quickly escalates into a nightmare. Once within the safety of the restaurant the two women discover it’s not just the men outside who’ve lost their minds, men everywhere have gone insane. And they believe they’ve found the origin of the mayhem. A radio in the kitchen is playing a hate filled message against women and it’s being delivered by the President. There’s only one way to stop the men from attacking women and logic tells them they need to terminate the chaos at its source.

Cockblock is a fascinating book, from the title to the cover to the synopsis, I knew I had to read this book the second I laid eyes on it. It is a wild piece of transgressive horror literature and I happily slurped it up in one sitting. The story follows a pair of lesbians that find themselves trapped in a feminist nightmare of cat-calling zombie rapists that hurtles humanity into an apocalyptic hell world. The book is fast, angry, and full of copious amounts of violence, sex, gore, and a surprising amount of humor. Reading it feels like a swift kick in the crotch and it is engaging from start to finish.
There were only a few things that fell a little flat for me. The cat-calling was at first creepy, then funny, and later just a little too repetitive. There were also the scary supernatural implications of what the radio message and the assaults meant for women in the first half that kind of just fell off in the latter half of the story. I still enjoyed the book and plan to read more of Hunt’s work.
Cockblock is an over-the-top campy gore fest that will please the right reader. The book is graphic and not for the faint of heart, make sure you check the trigger warnings.
