Review

Fanged Dandelion is a curious little collection of horror poetry that felt intensely personal. Eric LaRocca’s prose is as brutal as it is beautiful; his work is always a pleasure to read. In the introduction, Eric shares that his poetry collection stems from his struggle with intrusive thoughts. It was so unexpected, disturbing, and oddly relatable. The poetry accurately conveys the horror of that sudden, “I want to stick my hand into this garbage disposal.” The overwhelming stress and frustration of losing control of one’s mind and shame over even thinking about such disturbing and violent things is keenly felt. Eric LaRocca never ceases to amaze me, not just because of his talent with words, but with his deep understanding of the not-so-pleasant aspects of being a person.
