Synopsis:
The rule is simple: don’t bleed.
For as long as Molly Southbourne can remember, she’s been watching herself die. Whenever she bleeds, another molly is born, identical to her in every way and intent on her destruction.
Molly knows every way to kill herself, but she also knows that as long as she survives she’ll be hunted. No matter how well she follows the rules, eventually the mollys will find her. Can Molly find a way to stop the tide of blood, or will she meet her end at the hand of a girl who looks just like her?

Every time Molly Southbourne bleeds, a doppelgänger appears, intent on killing her. What a wild concept this novella had, and it was a bloody good time! I wasn’t sure how this book would play out when I picked it up, and it is a little unfortunate that it starts off with the tired old, “Listen to my story, your life depends on it” trope. That didn’t matter though because I ended up really enjoying Molly. She is a fun narrator to follow, she was just so cavalier about her situation, she reminded me of popular femme fatale characters that dominated early 2000s cinema.
The book is elevated by Thompson’s superb writing, there were moments that were genuinely creepy, and others that were absurdly funny. The action scenes are really well written, and I’m pretty picky about action. The plot is an intriguing blend of horror and science fiction that drew me in and I had a hard time putting it down. I can’t remember the last time I had so much fun reading a story for its own sake. I can’t comment much more on the story without dropping any spoilers, but I’ll say simply that this book is worth picking up, it’s offbeat and wickedly fun.
