Review

We Hunt at Night is a solid short story that reminded me of why I used to really love zombie stories. The story follows a southern family man and his dog just trying to survive the undead apocalypse. The narration is charming and funny and keeps the story moving quickly to an excellent conclusion. The story does a great job of balancing humor with solid emotional horror and was a fun read overall.

The story was originally included in the anthology Does the Dog Die? and is available as a free standalone ebook. It’s worth the read and a fun little sample story for those interested in checking out Duncan Ralston’s work.

Quote

“Rosco’s got all the meat off the bone so I trick him with a ball, an’ after he goes runnin fer it he only notices I tricked im after he’s got the ball in his mouth an’ he drops it with a look like he cain’t believe he got suckered again.”
