Synopsis:

Natalie, a single mom, can’t afford medical treatment for the unexplained pain in her foot, so she tries to improve it on her own by quitting running and turning to yoga. During the meditation component of class one day, she follows the instructor’s prompt and envisions opening a door to a better future.

Instead, she unlocks something far more nefarious: a portal to another realm.

After she begins experiencing frequent blackouts, Natalie fears she will lose herself completely to the force controlling her body. Someone—something—has been waiting for this opportunity, and it won’t give up without a fight.

Review

Close the Door is a tale of possession horror with a strong mystery thriller aspect that keeps the story moving fast and tensions high. I liked the main characters and was properly invested in their well-being. There was so much drama to this story that I ate up and I flew through the pages wanting to know what was going on. While some parts seemed predictable, the plot moved in a few directions I didn’t expect, especially the spectacular ending.

This was a strong first novel by the author, I can’t wait to see where her writing takes her in the future. Close the Door was a really fun read and was a great slump buster for me.

Quote

“She’s nice, too, but she’s different. I like when it’s just us, not her. You’re my real mom. She’s fake.”
