Review

This volume was a masterpiece, the denouement before the last volume. Like a wildfire, this volume was like the absolute peak of the inferno before the steady decay and slow burn to ash. It feels good to know that I was right about a giant red herring, but even my guess as to who was completely wrong. I’m pretty sure this is reveal is one final absolutely devastating… Red herring. It wouldn’t explain why Satsuki would confess to the crime. I’m pretty sure I know who it was now, so we shall see!

This series is truly about broken families, and unstable mothers that love their families even if it drives them to terrible acts. About children that grow up under heightened circumstances that alter their courses in life. I really adore each of the four children in this story and the trials that each one goes through as they develop. I am absolutely weak for Anzu and Kiichi, both broken, but able to see the good in each other.

The side story about Katsuragi’s new target was a welcome bit of comic relief that made me laugh out loud, a tiger never loses its stripes and I took way too much pleasure in this as much as I absolutely hated her character. This series has done a wonderful striking the balance between tension, drama, humor, and hopeful moments, it is very quickly becoming one of my absolute favorite series.
