This volume was slightly better than the first one, but not much. I went from being suspicious of Ryo, Yua’s teacher and husband, to outright hating him. He doesn’t seem to give a single shit about his son, not even caring when his son doesn’t return home, and only checks in on him when he gets jealous. Father of the year this one.
Subaru’s mother is also introduced initially as a mysterious older woman. The manga includes some very suspicious innuendo between her and Subaru before her identity is revealed, and this inclusion in the story was tasteless. Subaru’s mother being introduced just to create a romantic rival is just… Gross. No wonder Subaru is so emotionally constipated.
I will say at least that I was satisfied to see the story move in a positive direction. Yua realizes that she is not on equal footing with her much older husband, that she’s too young for him, and she wonders about what it’d be like to date someone her own age. All excellent conclusions, but the way that the story arrives there feels clumsy and almost out of nowhere.
♥ You Love Too Much: There was a one shot at the end of this volume about a teenage girl who confesses to her crush, only to find out he’s a player. He gaslights her into accepting his cheating openly. She decides to match his energy and starts hanging out with other guys. The story is toxic as hell but with a satisfying ending. Just some petty revenge against a guy who plays with girl’s hearts.

“Maybe… If I hadn’t met sensei… I would have dated a boy my own age. We’d have the same kinds of interests and the same experiences… Maybe we would have been equal.”
