Another stellar volume, this has been an honest high point in the series despite being a volume that features an onsen which is the usual setting for high amounts of fan service. I’m really not here at all for the fan service, but I am absolutely here for the character relationships that were developed in this volume. I loved that this volume focused heavily on what makes each of the quints unique and identifiable, even when they are all dressed the same. I loved this little bit of character growth for Futaro and his deepening relationship with the quints. I also loved the wonderful sister moment between Ichika and Yotsuba, and seeing Ichika decide to act on her feelings rather than sacrificing her own wants and desires for her sisters just because she is the de facto oldest sibling.
The romances are heating up as well, with four out of the five quints nurturing a crush on Futaro. Miku, Ichika, and Nino, most obviously. Yotsuba, I think, likes him as well, but she’s less overt about it. I’m surprised that Itsuki still seems to still view him only as a friend, but I like that about this series. It’s kind of refreshing not to have every single character fall for the hero at the same time right from the get-go. I like that the relationships are given time to develop and that the reader is shown how and why these crushes develop over time. Also, unpopular opinion, but I am steadily starting to not like Miku as much compared to the other quints, which makes me feel like a crazy person because she’s so popular.
The final chapter of this volume was fantastic, and I think reaffirms my earlier prediction for who the bride is. In fact, the appearance of this character shown talking to Raiha right after the wedding kiss scene is a dead-ass giveaway. I’m already chomping at the bit to look up discussions of the series, but I know that I need to wait until I finish before I can.
