Review

This series just keeps getting better and better and I’m so glad because the start honestly was really rough. Ichika standing up for herself in this volume is what I love to see! From the very first chapter taking off some of the heavy load to split rent was sensible; there is no reason for her to do it alone especially given that she’s in the exact same position as her sisters. After all the times Miku told Ichika to compete with her, I was glad to see Ichika finally stepping up.

I think I kind of like the quint’s father, which is crazy because he was so intimidating up until now. I was kind of shocked but cackling at him and Ebata’s role in placing all of the main cast in the same class. I actually usually really like series that include a lot of classroom scenes, so this volume made me particularly happy. Although the stepfather is a severe character, I do like that he appears to genuinely want the best for the quints, even if he’s not great at showing it.

The new rival Yuusuke was also funny as a complete antithesis to Futaro’s appearance and demeanor. I was wondering about who the poor sap was that was losing to Futaro’s perfect scores up to this point. I actually really enjoyed his character, even though he’s got kind of an obnoxious personality. I appreciated that he respected Futaro as an honest rival. I love seeing Futaro’s walls come down as he starts to think about other people’s romantic feelings. He is so conscientious, and it makes me SWOON.

Yotsuba is really so incredibly bold, but she’s so happy-go-lucky, and everything rolls off her back that nobody notices how self-sacrificing she is. While she may or may not realize her feelings herself, it’s clear that she’s aware of her sister’s crushes and is doing the sisterly thing by staying away. I love how Yotsuba supports Futaro. And isn’t that the greatest way to show love to someone? To support them and wish for their happiness, even if that happiness is not with you. With every interaction that she has with Futaro, it makes it really clear to me who it will be in the end, so now it is more of a matter of what events will lead to that ending.

Quote

“I’m so glad that you don’t think of romance as something foolish anymore. Even you might find someone you love in the future, Uesugi-san. And when that happens, no matter who you love, no matter how you come to love them, I’ll always be on your side supporting you with everything I’ve got!”
