I’m a lifelong lover of kawaii merch and was obsessed with Sanrio when I was in elementary school. I appreciated this box’s mission to bring every day kawaii items outside of Japan and I decided to treat myself to a box. June’s theme was Party Animal.

What I Got

Glitter Character Keychain

Moving Bunny Ears Hat

Sakura Kitchen Set

Sanrio Letter Set

Sparkly Kawaii Bowl

Sumikko Gurashi Coaster

Review

I thought this box was really cute, though I would not consider most of these items to be “party” themed by any stretch. Our family’s favorite item was the bunny ears hat, which was fluffy and had moveable ears. My kids were stoked for the hat, so I gave it to them to enjoy. Most of the items were practical and the snack bowl and coaster were used long term.

Unfortunately, the actual value of this box is debatable. While the items were certainly very cute, it came at a premium cost. When I checked the YumeTwins store on their website, I found that all of the items in the box purchased individually came up to a few dollars less than the actual cost of the subscription, I found this to be a major turn off. The hat was definitely the high dollar item.

The marketing strategy for YumeTwins is to build “streaks” where subscribers build points. Cancelling a subscription will cause you to lose your streak, and all of your points with it. This was also another major turn off, especially since the point extras cost quite a bit of points to obtain. Between this and the monthly random chance giveaways felt really gimmicky. Despite my critiques of the reward system, it’s a decent box if you’re looking for some curated kawaii items.

Let’s Discuss!

Do you like subscription boxes at all?

What do you think of the Kawaii box?

How do you feel about the point streaks and giveaways I noted?

Where to find it
YumeTwins

Note: This review was originally written and published in 2019.
