It’s a campy movie, but can be entertaining at points. The graphic novel was produced as a tie-in to the film to give a little more back story for some of the characters.

Instead of Jennifer this graphic novel focuses heavily on the dudes that die in the movie, giving each of them a back story leading up to their final encounter with Jennifer. With the exception of Chip, all of the other male characters are unimportant. The project writer decided to focus on these characters, showing another side of them that would cause the readers to ask whether the they deserved to die or not. And honestly? I just wonder WHY.

It’s also very clear that the graphic novel was written before the completion of the film, as several scenes are different than what was in the final cut. The end result is a graphic novel that was honestly pretty boring, it misses the point of the film by centering boys, and Ahmed’s chapter was tone deaf. I was tempted to DNF halfway through.

Look, I like the idea of presenting the story from a different perspective. Hell, the prologue and epilogue are told from Jennifer’s point of view and if the graphic novel had focused more on her character it would have been better. This tie-in was wasted potential.

Quote

“I don’t know but I feel just… Amazing.
