@Portia - That goulash sounds amazing, I love white sauce! I've never had a goulash with white sauce before.
Survey (Round 1): sugar18, sniderdoodle02
@Star - I had never had Shrimp cup noodle but I looked it up and you're right! How did they get them so small and cute?? I've never had proper tamales with corn husks, that sounds delicious though!

Gem biscuits! I used to go to my grandma's every weekend and she'd have stocked up on gem biscuits for me because she knows that I love them. I had a funny way of eating them as well - icing first, then the biscuit base. I don't eat them as much I used to because I find them too sweet but my grandma still mentions them from time to time and they will always remind me of simpler times.

My memory isn't that good, but I only can remember going out for Pizza with my family.
Like one time, it was friday, and my dad got paid, so my mom thought of a place to take me and my two younger brothers. Cicis pizza place was new, and we went there. It was new and big for younger me, plus there was games. XD so it was fun.

Basically any Middle Eastern food my mom or grandma made is the easy answer, to this day I still never bother getting certain foods at restaurants or whatever because it's like why am I paying money for stuff that will never match up to the way they make it lmao. My faves are probably kibbeh and fatayer/lahmacun (though we just called those 'meat pies' and 'open-faced meat pies' djfhkjfsf), though I'm also a fan of my mom's manaeesh because she uses regular biscuits like Pillsbury or whatever instead of making dough from scratch for them which I actually like better. There's just something about the way one's family cooks a dish that makes it so different/special compared to everyone else's version of the same thing.

@Portia - I have a love-hate relationship with worcestershire sauce. It's so overbearingly strong, but it kinda tastes really good on certain foods. It always makes me cringe a little though.
@Jun - Rice and egg is a match made in heaven and is always good!
Survey (Round 1): kingcrablegs01, water04
@Lex - I feel much the same way about Filipino dishes! The times I've had them from restaurants they just never tasted as good as when my mom makes it. She doesn't cook as much as she used to which is a shame, but I've slowly been asking her about her recipes. The Kibbeh and Fatayer/Lahmacun you mentioned look amazing, especially Fatayer/Lahmacun. Clever that she uses Pillsbury also, dough is so tedious to make and Pillsbury biscuits really are very good. I haven't had the chance to eat much middle eastern food, but the handful that I have tried I really enjoyed.
Survey (Round 1): cinnamonroll04, rosewine11
@rain - I have never heard of gem biscuits but looking it up they are MAD CUTE! I can't really eat meringue, it's too sweet for me, but a tiny bit is okay! That would be such a fun snack to make for the kiddos, I might need to try making it.
Survey (Round 1): drpepper16, fruitjuice07
@SalyaDarken - Gosh I remember Cici's Pizza! It's kind of sad that they've fallen over time. I agree that pizza was always a highlight as a kid, we rarely had it for most of my childhood so when we did get to have some it was always a treat!

I think for me it would have to be porkchops and macaroni salad.
Macaroni Salad was a staple in my kid years growing up and spending time with my grandmother during the summer. It was the only time in the year I ever got to see her to my family moved states to be closer to her after my great grandfather died. After he had died my mother didn't like that my grandmother was alone so it was decided that my family would uproot from 5 states away to go live with her. I grew up never liking mayonnaise, but if it was in that salad, I always ate it.
Pork chops, because they're best paired with said macaroni salad.

There are a few foods, stewed potatoes with parsley... though I am talking garden fresh parsley and homegrown tomatoes, and various other things that my grandfather grew in the back yard my grandmother cooked. One of my favorites was stewed potatoes with parsley, freshly baked cornbread, and a slice of sweet summer Vandalia onion. My grandmother make a pot of parsley and potatoes and had an iron skillet of fresh cornbread. Put a piece into a bowl and pour the stewed potatoes over that. Then there were the sweet potatoes she cook than bake in the oven those were delicious, and her homemade biscuits she made and sometimes puts in cheese.

@Auriianna - Potatoes, parsley, and cornbread are all things that I love! That's so great that your grandmother cooked from home and actually took the time to garden as well. Fresh food is the best tasting!

@Raie - Hmm I've never had macaroni salad with porkchops! I've only ever had said macaroni salad at potluck-type functions and it was always not amazing. Perhaps it'd be best to make it myself! I also feel you on not liking mayo, but I like it on certain things.
