Manga are comics created in Japan. The problem for most people is, as they're made in Japan they're only produced in Japanese; someone has to translate them to English! Is one man able to accomplish this? Is there more to his team's relationships other than business? Can everything in a translator's life be simple and clear?

Review

One Manga Day is a relic from 2014 that I still see floating around occasionally, with reviews popping up on YouTube as recently as 2025. It’s a visual novel about translating manga scans and in my humble opinion, the king of anime slop games.

I was initially interested in the premise: it’s advertised that the story is about translating manga, but honestly this gets dropped almost immediately and the game devolves into a hellscape of totally ~*rAnDoM*~ weeaboo brain rot. Once upon a time I too was a cringe middle schooler that was both super into anime and thought being random was cool and funny, and even tween weeaboo me would have thought this game was stupid. I got bored quickly, but the game was free and I wanted to finish up the achievements, so I pushed through. I don’t take pleasure in trashing games, but to this day I still scowl when I see this game on my 100% achievements list.

The game was originally written in Russian and is translated into a few languages, and let me tell you, the translations are unironically terrible, but to some that might be part of it’s charm. While I don’t personally recommend it the game still has some fans out there, and really what’s there to lose with a free game?
