I myself am a total bookworm and read all the time. I'm always reading something.
Any other fellow bookworms here?!
What are you currently reading?
I'm reading a What Happened to the Bennets by Lisa Scottoline.
My favorite genre is more and more becoming mystery/psychological thriller, so if you like that genre this book and her other latest, Someone Knows are great for you.

Re: Currently Reading
I'm a huge bookworm as well though I've been on a bit of a reading slump lately (being tied up with tcg building and all).
The books that I'm currently reading are:
- The Secret Talker by Geling Yan
- A Sliver of Darkness by C.J. Tudor (early review copy)
My favorite genre unapologetically is horror, followed by literary fiction and dystopia. I also appreciate the occasional mystery thriller. I'm a big mood reader so I tend to swing wildly in the genres books that I'm reading, and when a certain mood strikes me I will binge that particular genre until I get burned out.
@Caitlin: I haven't read any Lisa Scottoline but I have seen her name here and there. I'll check her out!

Im very bland hahaha. Besides fanfics, I have been in Damei hell for a few years now. Tho it still extends to other xianxia related titles as well. There is really a whole lot out there. The last one I was reading though was Er Ha He Ta De Bai Mao Shi Zun (erha for short). I was pretty much mostly finished, last arc, I just had to take a break because of real life haha. It starts to come out in English soon though, so I'll probably reread through it before I finish anyways. Though, I am also rereading through the MXTX novels in english now (compairing them with the chinese and japanese translations as I go). But its rereading, so I wouldnt be sure if that counted haha.
Re: Currently Reading
most of my reading is manga and the occasional visual novel, which i count because they have literary value! also like, if umineko no naku koro ni were a book, it'd be longer than war and peace.
buuuut i also finally remembered to ask my sister to lend me echo by thomas olde heuvelt, which she had been recommending i read for a while. she brought it to me today so i'm going to start reading it soon! she also keeps bugging me to read hex by the same author, but she lent it to my brother who lives 12 hours away. whoops! but i haven't read a novel in a while because i got so burnt out on reading for school, so we'll see how reading again goes!

Visual novels definitely count! Ace plays a lot of vnovels and will say he doesn't know how to read, but I have watched him read through those games for HOURS and get utterly engrossed in the story.Elijah wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 11:25 pm most of my reading is manga and the occasional visual novel, which i count because they have literary value! also like, if umineko no naku koro ni were a book, it'd be longer than war and peace.

I am a big horror fan and I keep seeing Thomas Olde Heuvelt recommended. I plan to pick up Hex from the library ~eventually~ but my to read list is already so huge I just lose track.

Re: Currently Reading
I've been hearing about that book ALL WEEK! I want to read it, but I'm sure my library's hold list is massive for it. Let me know how you like it when you finish!

Re: Currently Reading
I will! I'd actually had it pre-ordered for when it came out because the list for it at my library was huge, as well. But it was pretty cheap and my sister and I both wanted to read it, so I figured I'd buy it.
Re: Currently Reading
i finished echo like last week (kept forgetting to say something, hello adhd). i enjoyed it!! i think the storytelling style was really neat (it had two narrators and chapters alternated between their accounts), and it was a pretty fast read, despite being kind of a slow burn. but i like slow burn horror so that was perfect for me! i'm not good at book reviews or talking about literature but it was good! i want to read hex as soon as my brother brings it back, though i have heard it's a little scarier than echo.
i'm looking to read some of adam nevill's stuff while i wait for hex because i don't think my brother's visiting until christmas lmao. i really enjoyed the movie adaptation of the ritual, so i want to read the original book. i've also heard good things about the reddening, and i do enjoy folk horror. i just have to figure out who has them and find them. my siblings and my mom trade books so i just gotta hope they're not 8 hours away with my bro
also might nab certain dark things by silvia moreno-garcia next time i visit my sister since i know she has that one

Ooooh that's good! I was worried with Echo, I heard a lot of people say they didn't like it as much as Hex, but I love slow burn horror also. Adam Nevill is another one on my to read goal list, as he seems to be pretty popular.Elijah wrote: ↑Thu Aug 25, 2022 6:16 am i finished echo like last week (kept forgetting to say something, hello adhd). i enjoyed it!! i think the storytelling style was really neat (it had two narrators and chapters alternated between their accounts), and it was a pretty fast read, despite being kind of a slow burn. but i like slow burn horror so that was perfect for me! i'm not good at book reviews or talking about literature but it was good! i want to read hex as soon as my brother brings it back, though i have heard it's a little scarier than echo.

Another author I need to recommend, this author is from Argentina, but her horror is outstanding! Mariana Enríquez. There are 2 short story collections out in English which I adored. Those were Things We Lost in the Fire (Las cosas que perdimos en el fuego) & The Dangers of Smoking in Bed (Los peligros de fumar en la cama). I just got a review copy of the next book being translated, Our Share of Night (Nuestra parte de noche) and I'm ECSTATIC.
Here's the official book description:
I read a lot from my local library, along with review copies and books I occasionally buy.“We have children so we can continue, they are our immortality.”
A young father and son set out on a road trip, devastated by the death of the wife and mother they both loved. United in grief, the pair travels to her family home, where they must confront the terrifying legacy she has bequeathed. The woman they grieve came from a clan like no other—a centuries-old secret society called the Order that commits unspeakable acts in search of eternal life. For Gaspar, the son, this vampiric cult is his destiny.
Now Gaspar is in danger. As the Order tries to possess him, father and son take flight, yet nothing will stop the Order for nothing is beyond them. Hunted by evil and surrounded by horror, Gaspar and his father attempt to outrun a powerful family that will do anything to ensure its own survival. But can any of us escape the fate that awaits us?
Moving back and forth in time, from London in the swinging 1960s to the brutal years of Argentina’s military dictatorship and its turbulent aftermath, Our Share of Night is a novel like no other: a family story, a ghost story, a story of the occult and the supernatural, a book about the complexities of love and longing with many queer subplots and themes—this is the masterwork of one of Latin America’s most exciting novelists, “a mesmerizing writer,” says Dave Eggers, “who demands to be read.”
If anyone thinks they'd like to write reviews and give feedback, and has an ereader, you can read a lot from http://netgalley.com They also added audiobooks not too long ago, but I haven't tried that yet.
