The list of book to movie adaptations coming in 2026 has been outstanding so far. With films such as Project Hail Mary and The Odyssey making a big splash at the box office earlier this year and encouraging new readers, 2026 is shaping up to be a great year for adaptations.
Victorian Psycho

Victorian Psycho by Virginia Feito
Victorian Psycho is a book that I have seen on just about every recommendation list. I’ll admit that I attempted to read it during a reading slump and I struggled to get into the modern sounding narration. It’s a book I’ve wanted to go back to because of how highly it’s been praised. When I finally saw the movie trailer WOW. I can’t wait to watch this movie! And I hope to get back to the book soon.
Verity

Verity by Colleen Hoover
Ah yes, Verity. It’s the only Colleen Hoover book I’ve ever read, and it’s one that is both wildly popular and very divisive. I unabashedly loved this book in that trashy drama kind of way and I laughed when I heard the book was being adapted. I’m not normally a person that fan casts movies, but man I am so SO happy to see that Anne Hathaway cast as Verity. I’ve always liked Anne Hathaway since the start of her career in The Princess Diaries and I’m glad to see how her career has evolved. Over the last year or two she seems to really be at the height of her career and I’m here for it!
On top of the outstanding casting, I was even more surprised to see that Nick Antosca wrote the screenplay. I know he’s a screenwriter first, but his short fiction is tragically underread. I know the script is in good hands.

Incidents Around the House / Other Mommy

Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman
I love a good Josh Malerman book, he’s one author I will consistently pick up. Even if his books aren’t all-time favorites for me, I always have a good time when I pick up one of his books, and his ideas are always wildly interesting. I’m so glad that Malerman got his first big break when Bird Box was a hit a few years ago, and now he’s getting another adaptation with Other Mommmy. The book that inspired it, Incidents Around the House, was a huge hit a few years ago and the entire concept of “other mommy” is insanely terrifying.

Whalefall

Whalefall by Daniel Kraus
I’m so hyped for this movie, and it’s one I specifically want to watch in a movie theatre! The book is a crazy big hit in horror circles, for good reason, and the movie looks intense! This book has been on my TBR and I plan to read it before heading to the theatre.

Sense and Sensibility

Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
Last but certainly not least, Sense and Sensibility! I love a Jane Austen story, and I’ve been chasing the high of the 2005 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice ever since I’ve watched it. Sense and Sensibility is a story I have not yet read, so I am excited to read the book and watch this new adaptation.
