Awakened in Blood offers a fresh twist on the haunted house trope. The book at times feels like a summer slasher all grown up with a heavy emphasis on erotic horror. The book was compulsively readable with a tantalizing supernatural mystery to keep the story chugging along.
Most of the book is spent building up the character relationships and I enjoyed the mix of characters, there were plenty of points where I found myself laughing about character interactions. The ending, while brutal, I felt was over a little too quickly and didn’t fully deliver on the premise, and I had wished that certain character arcs had played out differently. Despite that it was still an entertaining read overall.
